This is our story of how we moved from Minnesota to California and a little bit of everything in between. I think we actually made our big decision to move in October 2016 after a few defining moments in our lives. However, we did not tell anyone until we could tell them in person, so that meant the holidays. Yep, we let the news out at Christmas time. I know, not the best present we could give, but it was better than telling anyone over the phone.
Once we let the cat out of the bag we had to get our house ready to put on the market. That took about a month to de-clutter and organize. Once our house hit the market is basically sold in one day with 3 offers. Then we had the joys of packing up our stuff and making all the phone calls to cancel services and change addresses. Once we had a closing date, March 21st, 2017, we made plans for our big move.
It was decided that Mike and my brother, Zac would drive one of our cars out to California the first week of March. They each took one week of vacation from their jobs and road tripped out to California. They did stop and spend the night at hotels each night, which did include a one night stay in Vegas! They left on a Saturday and then flew home on the following Friday. The next day was Logan's 3-year old birthday party and our Going Away party. It was so bittersweet to see everyone and celebrate Logan's birthday, but it was also sad to say "see you later" to everyone.
Next we decided to use Uhaul U-Boxes for our move. Not only was this the most affordable option for us, but it also made the most sense. When we initially moved we stayed with Mike's brother and his wife at their house. So therefore, we did not have a place to unload a giant semi-trailer. With U-boxes we loaded them up one by one and once we were done Uhaul transported them out to the closest Uhaul store in our new city. That Uhaul store kept them in storage until we were ready to come and get them and unload them.
And that brings me to how we arrived out here! We actually flew out! It was kind of a crazy because I flew out with the boys and Mike flew out on a different flight with his sister, Diane. Our plans changed a lot in the last few days in MN so we ended up on different flights, but it all worked out in the end.
There you have it in a nut shell. We arrived in California on March 21st, 2017 and that is when this new adventure began!
